Jefferson Highway Caravan to Stop in Nevada, Missouri Before Joplin Convention
It’s shaping up to be an exciting September for historic‑route fans, and Nevada, Missouri is right in the middle of the action. As Jefferson Highway enthusiasts make their way to the 2026 Jefferson Highway Annual Convention in Joplin, a pre‑conference caravan will roll through Nevada on Thursday, September 17th at approximately 2 PM.
The group will gather at the Vernon County Historical Society Museum before taking time to explore Nevada’s downtown historic sights. This stop is part of several caravans converging on Joplin for the multi‑day convention running September 19–22, 2026, celebrating the Jefferson Highway, Route 66, and the region’s identity as the Crossroads of America.
A Revival of the Jefferson Highway
The Jefferson Highway — once known as the “Pine to Palm Highway” — continues to gain momentum among travelers, historians, and preservationists. The Joplin convention will feature:
Caravans arriving from multiple states
Museum tours and heritage presentations
Vintage vehicle displays
Guided trips along historic sections of the route
Special centennial programming
Nevada’s placement on the original Jefferson Highway alignment makes it a natural and historically meaningful stop for the caravan.
Nevada’s Historic Welcome
Caravan participants will meet at the Historical Society Museum, where they can enjoy:
Local Jefferson Highway markers
Downtown architecture tied to early 20th‑century travel
Exhibits showcasing Nevada’s transportation history
It’s a great opportunity for residents to welcome travelers who are passionate about preserving America’s early roadways.
“On Jefferson Highway” — A Song Finding Its Audience
This year also brings renewed attention to my original song “On Jefferson Highway.” The track has been catching on among Jefferson Highway enthusiasts, appearing in social media posts, meetups, and conversations within the historic‑highway community. With the caravan passing through Nevada and the convention happening just down the road in Joplin, the song is finding its place as a cultural companion to the movement.
A September Moment to Remember
With the caravan arriving on September 17th and the convention beginning shortly after, Nevada is set to be part of a living piece of highway history. Whether you’re a local resident or a traveler on the route, this is a rare chance to see the Jefferson Highway community in motion.
Stop by the Historical Society Museum at 2 PM to greet the caravan and enjoy the historic energy rolling through town.
